Born and brought up:
Born 26 sept 1932 at Ga Gurmukh Singh Kohli and Amrit Kaur were parents of him although brought up by his paternal grandmother because of her mother’s demise. India lost that precious man on 26th December 2024.
Education:
He completed his matriculation from Punjab university 1948, for pursuing further study in Honours in Economic from Cambridge University in 1957 and finished his D.Phil. In economics Nuffeild college of Oxford University in 1962.
Family:
Wife Gursharan Kaur homemaker, Son none, Daughter Amrit Singh profession in human right lawyer, Daman Singh worked as writer, Upinder Singh as Historian.
Career:
Early days of his career, he taught in Delhi school and Punjab University as an economic faculty. In 1971 He joined GOI as an Economic Adviser in ministry of Commerce and next year he became chief economic adviser in ministry of commerce subsequently followed the route of the Governor of RBI after that he served as finance minister from 1991 to 1996. He played pivotal role in shaping Indian economic policy during economic crisis in 2000. In 2004 INC won election and nominated him as PM of India and served himself as 14th PM of India term 2004 -2009.
Achievements:
His excellency in Academic career to Politics Service to the Nation. He was awarded as Doctor of Letters in Punjab University. Padam Vibhushan awarded by GOI. He had been top 100 world influential people by Time magazine
